We support the National Park Service in the protection, preservation, and interpretation of the Park’s natural and cultural resources for the enjoyment of current and future generations.

As the Official Philanthropic Fundraising Partner to the Park, we play a unique role in enriching people’s lives and protecting our beautiful Park. Founded in 1997, we celebrate 29 years of supporting and caring for this remarkable place.

Our Work in Service of the Park

    Guardians of the Trails fosters the next generation of stewards to care for our Park.

    Our flagship program, Guardians of the Trails, is a year around service corps designed to address critical needs within Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park while inspiring young adults to pursue meaningful careers in conservation.

    Advocacy & Stewardship

    Friends of Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park advocate by educating the public, engaging policymakers, and protecting park resources, to help ensure our park remains protected, funded, and accessible for future generations.

    Our team supports projects that go beyond what government funding and entrance fees can provide, supporting critical projects to maintain infrastructure and equipment as well as Park operations during high visitation periods.

    Arts & Culture

    The Friends co-sponsor and facilitate Hawaiian cultural programs that are designed to offer rich opportunities to learn about and Hawaiian culture and to participate in preserving our beautiful Park for community members and visitors of all ages. Popular programs include our After Dark In The Park, Artist in Residence, the Annual Cultural Festival and the Kahuku Holiday Festival.

    Protecting Endangered Species

    The Friends support conservation efforts to help preserve native Hawaiian forests, protecting endangered plants and animals such as the rare 'Ōhi'a tree and the Hawaiian Hawksbill sea turtle and Nēnē (Hawaiian goose).
