This monthly program on second Sundays is aimed at bringing together the members of the Friends of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park to explore the Park’s beautiful trails.
This month’s walk explores the Halema‘uma‘u Trail, also known as the "Hike into the Past." Starting from the back of the Volcano House, we will descend through a diverse rainforest of ‘ōhi‘a and ferns down to the floor of the Kīlauea caldera. Experience the dramatic scale of the 2018 collapse from a unique perspective.
Difficulty: Moderate
Distance: 2.2 miles (2.6 km) round trip
Meeting location: Volcano House (back porch)
Be Prepared: The ascent back up to the rim is steep. Wear good walking shoes and bring water.
This event is presented by the Friends of Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Program cost is $5.00 for Friends members. Non-members are welcome to join the Friends in order to attend. And, of course, additional donations are always accepted. Park entrance fees apply.
All attendees must be a current Friends Member. If you are not a member, you may sign up below.
