Diana Miller embodies a life of diverse pursuits. Raised in a military family, Diana moved frequently during her childhood, experiencing many cultures. She earned a degree in Studio Art with a minor in Art History from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1975. Diana enlisted in the US Air Force in 1979. Her 25-year military career took her to various locations worldwide, culminating in her retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel at Hickam AFB in 2004. She will be doing a painting demonstration and talking about her experience painting during her residency at the Park.
Diana lives on the island of Hawai’i near Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, combining her passion for art and environmental stewardship. Employed as a substitute teacher, she transformed her off-grid residence into an art studio. In 2007, a serendipitous newspaper ad led her to a second career as a Seasonal Ranger at Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, where she dedicated herself to interpreting and educating about the islands’ unique environment until 2022. Diana continues to express her love for nature through art and remains an advocate for environmental awareness.
Kahuku is located in the district of Kaʻū, near mile-marker 70.5 on Highway 11, a one-hour drive from Kīlauea Visitor Center.
